Extended Knowledge Project Impact Event
December 7, 2015 in Ethical Considerations, Extended Mind and Epistemology, New Research, News, Uncategorized by Orestis Palermos
On January 28, 2016, we are holding an impact event for the recently completed Extended Knowledge Project. The aim of the event is to demonstrate how conceiving of knowledge as extended and socially extended can provide the means for analysing and further developing a number of modern epistemic trends (such as our increased reliance on information provided by our smartphones and social computing) that spring from the ongoing boom in communication and information-processing technologies.
The talks will concentrate on the following general topics:
- Extended Knowledge – The effects of technology on knowledge-acquisition
- Socially Extended Knowledge – The impact of group collaboration on knowledge-acquisition
- The effects of Extended and Socially Extended Knowledge on Education
- The impact of Extended and Socially Extended Knowledge on Informatics
- The Ethical and Legal Ramifications of Extended and Socially Extended Knowledge
The event is hosted by the Eidyn research centre at the University of Edinburgh (www.eidyn.org). The speakers will be Professor Duncan Pritchard (Epistemology, Edinburgh), Professor Andy Clark (Philosophy of Cognitive Science, Edinburgh), Dr Adam Carter (Epistemology, Edinburgh), Dr Paul Smart (Electronics and Computer Science, Southampton) and Dr Orestis Palermos (Epistemology and Philosophy of Cognitive Science, Edinburgh).
